Me and my acne: Week 33 update.

So the last time I updated you, I was happy with the way my skin was going. I thought it was improving, either due to my new medication (Dianette) or something within my skincare routine. I was excited because it seemed I was on the way to being cured from the nasty, disgusting acne that has plagued me for about 3-4 years.

Let me tell you, the happy feeling has well and truly been replaced by frustration, desperation and upset. Just take a look at the pictures of my skin below and you'll understand:

Does that look like an improvement to you? No, didn't think so. And I always say this, I know you have probably seen worse cases of acne, so don't berate me about how life isn't so bad, but to me, this is awful. I feel disgusting, I feel ugly and it is such a major confidence depressor. I am lucky I have an amazing boyfriend who can see past that, but most people can't. It upsets me so much to think I look like this. What also worries me is the scarring and pigmentation I'll be left with.
Obviously I am hacked off with how crap Dianette is being, but I have only been on it a month, and have two months left of the prescription. Now here is what I want to ask - should I go back to the doctor this early and tell him/show him it's having no effect, or should I man it out for the other two months? I don't want to have to suffer longer than I have to, and if I go to the doctor now then maybe they can give me something else? I don't want to wait around for no improvement and for my skin to potentially get worse. Oh bugger, I don't know what to do!

HELP?!

  1. I'm sorry I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer your questions - but just wanted to suggest that you ask them on the skincare board at Makeupalley. They know EVERYTHING and I mean everything. And many of them have or had similar skin issues so they know any topical treatment, medication or hormonal fluctuation that should be tested. They've helped me and many other sooooo much.

  2. I think after a month you should see some improvement, I'd go back to my doctor. I've never been on Dianette before, but I do have really bad acne and can relate. Things I've taken that worked were minocycline(loved) and doxycycline (effective but made me sick) you could ask your doctor about those. They are like anti bacterial and really within a week of taking either of them I didn't get any new acne and the acne that was already there disappeared.

  3. Hey, maybe you have a problem with your digestive system. Have you ever checked that? Anyway, if that is the cause you can try drinking water at the very first moment when you wake up (like half a liter). But it should be at room temperature or even warmer. It will help a lot with cleansing.

I wrote a book telling the story of six people confronted with this issue (their issues are told from different angles). Maybe you can have a read and find other such tips.

It will be available for free for a short period between July 31st and August 2, you can have a download and maybe write a review.

The adress of the ebook is here: amazon.com/dp/B00E54WAPU

I hope it helps. Feel free to contact me at anytime through the twitter adress below.

  4. I know this post I from ages ago .... Just found your blog and love it ... But dianette only really kicks in after 6+ months, with an initial outbreak in the first month or two. Hormonal treatments take a long time to get Into your systemThis is both from personal experience, on it now, my doctor's whose acne I know didn't clear up until 7/8 months and review on acne.org (I check every product I use on that). Since I have just started roaccutane, I was prescribed dianette at the same time I got my referral 6 months ago, it has just kicked in enough to prevent the major initial that roaccutane is meant to cause.

Good luck with trying to clear your skin - I know what a difficult journey it can be
    Mary.
